The Silverton Community Club

The Christmas by the Lake Festival is an event under the umbrella of the Silverton Community Club. But this is just only one activity among many others. So let us introduce what kind of club it is and what else the club is doing.

The Silverton Community Club is a recently formed non-profit organization under the Provincial Incorporation Society Act (S-51902).

The purposes of the society are:

(a) To promote community spirit and volunteerism within the community.
(b) To provide financial support and resources to projects within the community.
(c)     To organize existing community projects.
(d)    To develop and promote new community projects.
(e)     To assist and provide resources, where needed, to ensure the community remains a vibrant community.

The Silverton Community Club started out with small steps in March 2007, but our list of community achievements, accomplishments and memberships continues to grow. As of November 3rd 2008 we numbered 37 full members. This works out to about 20% of the population of the Village.

What the Silverton Community Club does, it does it very well. Silverton is quickly gaining a reputation as a "happening" place.

Since our 2007 Annual General Meeting we have accomplished the following:

  • Hosted our annual Volunteer Awards evening, sponsored by Columbia Basin Trust.
  • Hosted our annual Community Club Members Christmas pot-luck dinner.
  • Staged the very highly successful Christmas-By-The-Lake festival.  This event is turning into a tourist destination attraction.
  • Hosted and co-sponsored the 2008 Polar Bear Swim.
  • Hosted and sponsored the Annual Car Wash and BBQ Banquet in support of the Lucerne School graduating class.
  • Assisted VSSM and VSSFA by providing and setting up tents, sun shades and banners, moving and setting up equipment for venues, and take-down and clean up.
  • Hosted the very popular July 1st Celebration topped off by fabulous fireworks.
  • Hosted a great and well turned out July 1st Volunteer Appreciation evening dinner and show.
  • Provided funding and assistance to the Friends of Memorial Hall for the purchase of tables, chairs and portable staging.
  • We have raised funds for and donated to the Hospital Auxiliary, Christmas Sharing, Destination Silverton and Friends of Silverton Memorial Hall.
  • Completed this years annual events calendar program.
  • The Heritage Colors Committee has cleaned, prepared and primed the entire exterior of Memorial Hall in preparation for a full paint system in the spring of 2009, when the weather is favourable to both the paint and the volunteer painters.
  • The bottle recycling depot is still alive.

It is worth noting that there was absolutely no cost to the taxpayers of the Village of Silverton for any of these Community Club projects.
For such a young organization, the Silverton Community Club has been very involved in the activities of our community.

We all joined this Community Club with the goal of doing what we can to keep Silverton the beautiful place we know and love.
