As in previous years, the Christmas Village, with its sparkling, festive lights and busy booths, is set before the historic Silverton Gallery where visitors will be fascinated to watch demonstrations of various traditional crafts such as glass blowing and blacksmithing.
Once again the celebrated sculptors, Peter Vogelaar and David Ducharme, will be creating beautiful ice sculptures and the legendary, exciting ice slide – so popular and enchanting for children.
Luc Vreys will also be returning to carve in wood, offering the opportunity to win his eagle sculpture in the raffle (so make sure you buy a ticket).
For the first time ever fire dancers perform on Christmas by the Lake: Illuminadis are a group of young, inspired, lovers of flow, dance, and music, will enchant the Christmas Village with their fire dances.

Ice Sculptures by Peter Vogelaar and David Ducharme
Peter Vogelaar and David Ducharme (World Olympic champions and winners of the 2006 Quebec International Sand Sculpture Contest) have been sculpting snow since 1992 and sand since 2002. Their sculptures are intended to create a sense of wonder and surprise, both in the subject matter and use of the medium. With the sculptures being of such an ethereal nature, they strive to create images which will live long in the memory of the viewer.

Wood Carver Luc Vreys

Luc Vreys from Belgium, now living in Slocan Park, was the second place winner in the White River Chainsaw Carving Competition, Pacific, Wash. In 2010, his interest in the outdoors took Vreys from a pharmacist’s job to work with logs in British Columbia. He jumped into chainsaw carving, and immediately was taken with the work.
“In the beginning it was learning how to carve,” he said. “Now it’s learning how to make a piece look nice, giving it details and finish.”
Its his third time at Christmas by the Lake, and again a new chance for all to see small pieces of sawdust getting caught in his hair and beard as he works.
